2025 in Review

It’s that time of year again to reflect and think about what’s coming up in the future.

This year was an interesting year, both personally and professionally.

Personal

We’re approaching our fourth anniversary of moving to Yakushima (it’ll be exactly four years this coming February), and we’ve been able to make more friends and acquaintances on the island. I’ve also taken up running as a hobby and have gotten involved in the local running community as well.

Work

Professionally, I started my company, KotobaMedia, at the beginning of this year. While doing consulting work for a couple of clients, I’ve been working on a product that I’m planning on officially announcing in a couple of months.

2026 goals

A few goals for the upcoming year:

  • The aforementioned product launch.
  • Keeping up the training, and completing my first long-distance races (a 55km run halfway around the island on Jan 11, and the Kagoshima Marathon on Mar 1)
    • Maybe a couple other races later in the year?
  • Doing some more networking with both people in the geospatial field, but also adjacent fields.
  • Networking with people on the island, and growing the community of remote/technology workers here.

Overall, I want to keep iterating on what I’m building now and scale to a place where hiring a teammate makes sense, while expanding the community of people working together.

That’s it. Simple one this year, but there’s a lot to look forward to next year. Thanks for reading!
